MARCELO QUINONEZ COMPOSITIONS FEATURED IN AWARD WINNING FILMS
The frontman of Latin Alternative Band Cuchata Gains Great Success in Licensing Industry

Los Angeles, CA. 15 June 2009— When the producers of the award-winning short film, “Help Wanted”, needed a song to include in one of the most film’s most compelling scenes, they selected a track called “Dos Pajaros” from the Cuchata CD titled Sangre Mixto.

“Dos Pajaros” was written by composer Marcelo Quinonez, who has composed and performed everything from Latin Alternative music to a wide range of scores for film, television, commercials, and viral marketing campaigns. He is a diverse, multifaceted artist who possesses the uncanny ability to create musical compositions that convey mood, emotion, and imagery. But this is merely one side of his artistry: Marcelo has had great success in the Latin Alternative music genre with his band Cuchata, which blends a variety of styles and sounds influenced by his Nicaraguan heritage.
"Help Wanted" won awards for Best Narrative Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Director at the 5th annual Elevate Film Festival, held at the 7,100-seat Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles. The short film is a gripping, sensitive and uplifting story about 2 Mexican-American car mechanics. The film had to follow Elevate’s unique guidelines: this 10 ½ minute film was made in 7 days, with merely 1 further day for writing the screenplay..“Help Wanted” was directed by Teo Guardino with Michael Lynch as director of photography, and produced by Jamie Bullock, Michel Bayan, Francis DellaVecchia and Jay J. Milla, with screenplay by Gabriel DellaVecchia. The film was written in one day, while locations were being scouted. It was shot over 3 days, at the Daniel Fierro auto repair center in Pacoima, and a private residence in Hollywood. All post-production was completed in 4 days, under the supervision of editor Ira Flowers.

Composer Marcelo Quinonez grew up in and around Los Angeles, California. As a child, he was constantly surrounded by music from various fiestas and family gatherings held by his large Nicaraguan family. From 1995 to 1996, Marcelo studied with Flamenco guitarist Chris Carnes and was invited to Sweets Mill International Folk Music Festival to accompany Chris and a variety of other Flamenco and Latin American Ensembles. In 1999, Marcelo traveled to Nicaragua to study the culture, music and his ancestral roots. That trip gave birth to the idea of Cuchata a genre bending band that launched that pays homage to the vibrant and varied styles of music that come from the Latin American diaspora and launched his career in the music business.

Cuchata’s music has been licensed for commercials, television shows, and feature films. Cuchata’s continued success and experimentation led Marcelo to undertake a new challenge to actively pursue a career in film and television music as well as lending his talents to produce new artists. Early successes down this path include scoring award winning short films such as the aforementioned and “Saddam 17”. Marcelo is currently working on a new Cuchata album as well as new feature film projects. Marcelo is available for score composition for film, television, commercials, and video games and is available as a producer for recordings. Marcelo also has a constantly growing library of production music for sync licensing and source music available through his production company Canica Music and his record label Eleggua Productions.

News, News, News...

OK I know this kinda like cheating to post a press release from your publicist...but... I'm busy, so I promise a real post soon!

L.A. Composer Marcelo Quinonez Lands Track in New Feature Film;
Joins Hollowstone Music Roster

Los Angeles, CA 08 May 2009—Los Angeles based composer Marcelo Quinonez continues to grow his list of film and television licensing deals with the signing of two new contracts this month. While he is best known for his Latin Alternative band, Cuchata, Marcelo is branching out quickly into the very competitive world of music licensing and publishing due to the diverse sounds and moods which his compositions deliver.

Of Nicaraguan descent, Marcelo uses his cultural influence in many of his compositions. However, he also creates an array of orchestral and trailer specific composition that range from fantasy to dramatic. It is this keen musical sensibility that has landed this young artist multiple licensing deals in a short amount of time.

His track Dia Del Sol was recently selected for a scene in the upcoming feature film Mercy, starring Scott Cann and Dylan McDermott. Information about the film can be found by visiting this link: Mercy the Film.

In addition, Marcelo joined the Hollowstone Music roster, which maintains a diverse library of music that has been featured in such heavy hitting films as Pirates of the Caribbean and I Robot, and television shows including the David Letterman show and the MTV Music Awards.
